Christine McVie, the singer, songwriter and keyboardist and Fleetwood Mac’s biggest hitmaker, died Wednesday at 79. She passed after suffering a short illness.

The British American rock band Fleetwood Mac, founded in London, sold several million copies with McVie contributing her soulful vocals and lyrics. Tracks like ‘Everywhere,’ ‘Hold Me,’ ‘You Make Loving Fun,’ and ‘Songbird’ are a few of her most notable works.

The singer was a part of the Chicken Shack band before her marriage to John McVie. She joined the Fleetwood Mac group in 1970. The couple divorced in 1976, but the split did not stop the band from coming up with ‘Rumours’ (1977), one of the most iconic and best-selling albums that sold more than 40 million copies.

Though Christine left the band in 1998, she released a solo album in 2004; she rejoined the band in 2014 for a tour.

Losing Christine McVie has deeply saddened the music industry and her band members. She sure will live eternally through her songs.
