The teenage heartthrob of the 60’s rock ‘n’ roll, Bobby Rydell, passed away on Tuesday due to pneumonia. His death was just days away from his 80th birthday.

Rydell, a star of radio, television and the 1963 movie musical ‘Bye Bye Birdie’ was among the wave of teen idols who emerged after Elvis Presley and before the Beatles.

He is survived by his second wife, Linda Hoffman, son Robert Ridarelli, daughter Jennifer Dulin, and five grandchildren.
