For the first time in nine weeks, the average gas price in the country dropped below $5 for a gallon.

Just as the July 4 weekend approaches, the price fell to $4.981 per gallon on Monday.

Patrick De Haan, a GasBuddy analyst, predicted that national gas prices could drop to $4.75 or $4.85 per gallon by July 4.

Some credit goes to the Biden administration as they look at policies to reduce gas prices. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen suggested a gas tax holiday and President Biden indicated a decision would be made this week.

Tom Kloza, Global Head of Energy Analysis for gas price tracker OPIS, said that gas prices would rise again and reach $ 6 per gallon.
