Ukraine is set for the winter as far as heating is concerned. The US will provide the war-torn country with 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas over the next six months.

A third of Ukraine’s households rely on centralized heating and more than half on centralized hot water supply to get through the winter, when average temperatures drop well below freezing.

Damaged pipelines
Since Russia’s invasion in February, more than 5,000 kilometers (3,100 miles) of gas pipelines in Ukraine have been damaged, posing a threat to millions of households in the country.

“We now see a successful passage of the winter season. We see sufficient reserves,” Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said while announcing the deal with the US on Wednesday.
