House Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan accused the DOJ and AG Merrick Garland of protecting President Biden’s son and attacking Trump|Senate Democrats|CC BY 2.0

Attorney General (AG) Merrick Garland was grilled by the House Judiciary Committee yesterday on the roles he played in the Hunter Biden gun charges case and Donald Trump indictments.

Committee Chair Jim Jordan accused the Department of Justice (DOJ) of protecting President Biden’s son and attacking Trump. Republicans in Congress had accused Garland of intentionally slowing the President’s son’s case and fast-tracking Trump’s lawsuits upon Biden’s request.

In his response, Garland retorted, “I am not the president’s lawyer. I will also add that I am not Congress’ prosecutor. The Justice Department works for the American people.”

The special counsels appointed by Garland for each case, David Weiss and Jack Smith, were also under scrutiny.

In a first of its kind for any AG in U.S. history, Garland is overseeing cases involving two Presidents—two cases against former president Donald Trump and the other against the sitting president, Biden’s son.
