Six House Republicans defied party leaders and joined Democrats to vote to repeal President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Canada, delivering a rare public rebuke of the trade policy that anchors his second term.

The bipartisan vote followed months of quiet frustration inside the GOP as lawmakers warned the tariffs were hurting farmers, manufacturers, and cross-border trade.

Trump quickly pushed back, threatening primary challenges for any Republican who opposed him.

Several lawmakers said rising costs for fertilizer, equipment, and steel forced their decision. One member said Congress must not act as a “rubber stamp” and should reclaim authority over tariffs.

The Senate has already passed a similar repeal, but Trump can veto the measure. Without a two-thirds majority, Congress is unlikely to override him, keeping the tariff fight alive.
