Trump replaced the controversial Bill Pulte with Jay Clayton as his nominee
President Donald Trump postponed the Senate confirmation hearing for Jay Clayton as director of national intelligence, slated for yesterday, delaying a nomination that had been expected to win swift bipartisan approval.
Trump replaced the controversial Bill Pulte with Clayton as his nominee.
Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Tom Cotton said the hearing was canceled after Trump directed Clayton not to appear before lawmakers.
Posting on Truth Social, Trump said the hearing would not proceed until Clayton’s successor as prosecutor was in place.
Trump said he wants Senate Republicans first to approve his nominee, Jamie McDonald, as US Attorney. He also wants Congress to renew the FISA Section 702 surveillance program only if lawmakers pass the SAVE America Act, a Republican-backed voting bill.
