Sunday marked the 50th anniversary of the landmark Roe v Wade judgment that divided the country’s view on abortion rights. The decision continues to rattle all sides of the political spectrum.

The Supreme Court’s infamous 2022 decision to overturn Roe v Wade ignited a wide range of reactions. The law that granted federal protection to women who opted for abortions, despite it being illegal in their state, is now gone.

Protests
On Roe’s 50th anniversary, rallies were conducted in more than 12 cities nationwide by abortion rights supporters. They held signs that read “Abortion Is Health Care” as activists chanted slogans urging their respective state governments to loosen the ban on abortions and pregnancy-ending pills.

Celebrations
Anti-abortion groups and activists celebrated too, a bit differently though. Marilyn Musgrave, vice president of government affairs at Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America said last year’s SC decision reflected on the “faithfulness of the pro-life movement."

Politicians
Liberals and Democrats looked at the anniversary as a way to encourage pro-choice thought.

Speaking at a Planned Parenthood event, Vice President Kamala Harris said, “Let us not be tired or discouraged—Because we are on the right side of history.”
