President Donald Trump posted on social media that Secretary of State Marco Rubio will temporarily replace his national security adviser, effectively ousting Mike Waltz, who held the position.
The move comes just over a month after Waltz mistakenly added a journalist to a group chat on the Signal app where high-profile officials discussed sensitive military plans.
According to CBS News, Trump decided to nominate Waltz as UN ambassador just hours before the announcement on Thursday.
It is yet unknown what the president will decide about Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, who shared details about an upcoming military strike on the group.
