The world’s largest retailer, Walmart, announced Sunday that it is teaming up with the world’s largest search engine, Google, to offer its products inside the Gemini AI chatbot.

It is the first major retailer to use Google’s Universal Commerce Protocol, which enables AI agents to complete checkout.

Walmart CEO John Furner describes the move as the next retail evolution.

The collaboration will let Gemini users browse, add items to their cart, and pay for Walmart items without leaving the chatbot. Assortments from Sam’s Club will also be available to purchase.

Additionally, Walmart is expanding the Alphabet-owned Wing drone delivery service to an additional 150 stores.

The rollout, scheduled through 2027, follows successful pilots in Dallas-Fort Worth and Atlanta. The retail giant expects it to operate from over 270 stores and serve 10% of the US population.
