A green comet C/2022 E3 (ZTF) will make its first appearance in 50,000 years between February 1 and 2 in the night skies of the Northern Hemisphere.

Astronomers at the National Science Foundation’s Zwicky Transient Facility (ZTF) in California discovered the green comet in March 2022. The comet will be visible near the bright star Polaris through binoculars in the morning. During the night, it can be spotted even with the naked eye.

The comet appears green as its ice particles turn into gas when it is close to the Sun. It also has a distinguishable tail of dust and energized particles.
