Linda Yaccarino announced her resignation as CEO of X on Wednesday, ending a two-year tenure at the Elon Musk-owned platform.

Appointed in May 2023, after leading NBCUniversal’s ad business for over a decade, Yaccarino was brought in to stabilize X’s revenue. The social media company’s earnings declined after Musk’s $44 billion acquisition in 2022.

Advertisers boycotted the site after Musk engaged with antisemitic posts and advocated for free speech on the platform. Ad revenue from top advertisers fell from $127 million in October 2022 to $48 million in January 2023.

Musk’s public clashes with the ad world, including his infamous “Go f--- yourself” remark to boycotting advertisers, further damaged sales.

Despite the turmoil, Yaccarino helped revive sales by restoring partnerships with major brands, including the NFL and NBA. She also launched new features such as a connected TV app and exclusive shows featuring Serena and Venus Williams.

Her exit follows controversy over X’s AI chatbot Grok, which recently published antisemitic content. Musk admitted the AI was manipulated and promised improvements.

A successor for Yaccarino has not yet been announced.
