EA Sports is offering college football players $600 each to appear in its College Football 25 video game, marking the first time student athletes can profit from their name, image and likeness (NIL) in a video game.
The game, set for release in July, will feature 85 NCAA players from 134 Division 1 schools.
Additionally, over 11,300 eligible players will also receive a free copy of the video game.
Benefits for college athletes have increased in recent times. In 2021, the NCAA voted to allow student players to profit from their NIL. A recent ruling allowed Dartmouth College’s men’s basketball team to unionize, recognizing them as employees with the right to negotiate.
