Jannik Sinner reclaimed the world No.1 ranking with a strong 7-6(7-5), 6-3 win over Carlos Alcaraz in the Monte Carlo Masters final yesterday.

The Italian secured his first Masters title on clay after a high-quality contest played in windy conditions, which led to 83 unforced errors.

The match marked the duo’s first clash as the top two players since last November.

Sinner’s victory capped a historic run, making him only the second player, after Novak Djokovic, to win the Sunshine Double and Monte Carlo in the same season.

The 24-year-old also secured his third Masters 1000 title this year, extending his winning streak in such events to 22 matches.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Mirra Andreeva rallied to win the Linz Open, defeating Anastasia Potapova in three sets.
