Major League Baseball (MLB) players and fans are disappointed with the design, quality and prices of the new, Fanatics-made Nike-designed jerseys this season.

Fans say the jerseys’ flimsy fabric, smaller letters, and logos that are no longer directly embroidered onto the jersey make it appear cheap. Some players equate the quality to a “knockoff jersey from T.J. Maxx.”

More importantly, several MLB players have expressed frustration over limited tailored options and the reduced quality. The fit of the sports jerseys could potentially impact players’ performance on the field.

The MLB Players’ Association (MLBPA) has reportedly raised concerns with Nike and MLB. The union’s executive director, Tony Clark, told The Athletic that discussions are ongoing to address players’ needs and preferences.

Despite criticism, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred defends the new uniforms, emphasizing they are performance-oriented and improve mobility and comfort.

Much of the fans’ ire is directed towards the jersey manufacturer Fanatics, which has significant control over sports apparel, including exclusive licensing deals with major leagues.
