For the first time, all four iPhone 17 models—slated for US launch this September—are manufactured in India, reports Bloomberg.
Production is split across five factories in India’s Tamil Nadu state and the city of Bangalore. Tata Group, which owns Jaguar Land Rover, and Taiwan’s Foxconn are managing the plants.
India has now become the top supplier of smartphones shipped to the US, with iPhone exports from the country surging significantly this year.
The move aims to offset the impact of President Donald Trump’s tariffs on China, a major Apple supplier. CEO Tim Cook has previously confirmed that most iPhone assembly would be relocated to India to sidestep tariff penalties.
However, China will continue to lead in Apple product production for non-US markets.
