US intelligence believes a senior executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed had developed a close relationship with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang|World Economic Forum|CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

Nvidia chief Jensen Huang reportedly had close ties to a Singapore-based cloud company executive whom US intelligence officials considered a potential Chinese asset, according to The New York Times.

Alice Huang, a Chinese citizen, was already suspected of helping China bypass US restrictions on access to AI chips.

The findings have raised concerns in Washington. Officials briefed President Donald Trump about the intelligence last year, but he chose not to act, partly because he wanted to protect Nvidia’s chip sales to China and avoid disrupting trade relations.

Nvidia denied any wrongdoing, saying its dealings with the Singapore-based company followed normal business practices and that Jensen Huang’s interactions with Alice Huang were routine. The Justice Department has taken over the investigation.
