The Samsung lineup introduces three devices: the top-spec Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, the new book-style Galaxy Z Fold8, and the flip-style Galaxy Z Flip8
Samsung is looking to stay ahead of Apple as it unveiled its Galaxy Z8 foldables yesterday, months before Apple’s expected iPhone launch featuring similar capabilities.
The lineup introduces three devices: the top-spec Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra ($2,099), the new book-style Galaxy Z Fold8 ($1,899), and the flip-style Galaxy Z Flip8 ($1,199).
Samsung’s latest offering appears to closely mirror the dimensions of Apple’s anticipated foldable iPhone, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The South Korean company adopted a wider, passport-inspired design intended to enhance video viewing, gaming, and social media browsing, it said.
Both Fold variants are powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor.
The Ultra offers an upgraded camera system and larger battery over the standard Fold8.
Samsung increased the price of its new phones by $100 over the previous generation, a move analysts attribute to rising memory chip costs driven by AI demand.
Competition has steadily been increasing among bendable phones.
While foldables were only 1.6% of the smartphones sold in 2025, according to Counterpoint, Samsung holds around 40% of that market, and Huawei makes up 30%. Apple’s new foldable phones, rumored to surpass $2,000, could disrupt the share.
Samsung’s pricing strategy reflects its effort to stay ahead as competition heats up.
Meta can expect competition
The South Korean company also detailed its upcoming smart glasses, launching this fall to challenge Meta’s market dominance.
Meta held a 69.2% share of the smart glasses market in early 2026.
