President Donald Trump says the US will increase tariffs on countries imposing digital services taxes (DSTs) on American tech firms, including Google, Meta, Apple and Amazon.

Posting on social media late Monday, Trump warned that those who don’t scrap the laws will face “substantial additional Tariffs on that Country’s Exports,” and restrictions on advanced tech and chip sales.

European nations have aggressively rolled out digital taxes, with measures like the EU’s Digital Services Act targeting the revenues of major US tech platforms.

The US has long pushed back, and the issue has sparked bipartisan concern in Washington, with lawmakers warning that the DSTs create unfair trade barriers.
