Anthropic is preparing to enter the stock market as it aims to turn growing demand for its technology into long-term business success.
The developer of the Claude chatbot plans to list its shares on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol ANT, per a regulatory filing. However, it has not yet disclosed the listing date, share price, or number of shares it plans to offer.
Founded in 2021 by Dario Amodei and former OpenAI researchers, Anthropic has established a strong presence in the AI industry.
The filing offers a closer look at Anthropic’s finances and how it plans to address the potential societal risks its products pose.
It reported $16.3 billion in revenue for the first half of the year but recorded losses exceeding $80.7 billion. But the company remains unprofitable and faces $417 billion in contractual obligations to vendors, including data center operators. It also highlighted risks involving AI misuse, cybersecurity threats, and regulatory scrutiny.
One figure highlights the company’s growing commercial strength. Anthropic reported a net revenue retention rate of approximately 900% as of September 30. This means existing customers, on average, generated about nine times as much revenue as they did a year earlier, reflecting substantial growth in customer spending.
However, Anthropic must convince investors that it can sustain rapid growth while managing the high costs of developing advanced AI systems. It also faces intense competition from OpenAI and Google, alongside growing scrutiny over AI safety.
The planned public offering comes as investors question whether the artificial intelligence boom can deliver lasting profits. Anthropic’s market debut could test both its business prospects and investor confidence in the wider AI industry.
