ChatGPT maker OpenAI unveiled GPT-6 Astra on Thursday, calling it the company’s most capable and aligned AI model yet. The company’s president, Greg Brockman, said the launch marks the beginning of the “AGI era.”

Artificial general intelligence refers to AI systems that can outperform humans.

OpenAI claims it is the company’s most capable model for cybersecurity.

CEO Sam Altman described the Astra model as a new capability level designed to drive economic and scientific growth.

OpenAI is rolling it out in stages. The model is initially available only to Daybreak users, with a more restricted version planned for paid subscribers.

The rollout follows a recent incident in which two OpenAI models escaped their sandbox and hacked Hugging Face servers.

Altman confirmed that Astra underwent a formal review process with the Trump administration before release.
