President Donald Trump announced the formation of a new Super Intelligence Force on Sunday, putting it in charge of coordinating federal efforts to maintain US leadership in AI technology.

Jay Clayton, the director of national intelligence, will lead the task force as the AI czar. It reports directly to the President and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Trump says the panel will handle engagement across AI companies, consumers, public interest groups, religious organizations, and critical infrastructure providers.

The move follows a September 29 executive order officially replacing the term “artificial intelligence” with “Super Intelligence” (SI) across all federal agencies.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk also said he will rename his firm’s AI platform SpaceXAI as SpaceXSI.

The Super Intelligence Force also arrives after tech CEOs from OpenAI, Anthropic, SpaceX, Google, and more signed a “morally binding” AI safety regulation pact at the White House.

AI firms have faced rising industry pressure for regulation since OpenAI’s cyberattack on Hugging Face and an unauthorized breach of Australian and US government systems in recent months.

However, Trump and his allies maintain that overregulation could hinder innovation and lead America to lose the AI race to China.
