Apple has reportedly ditched its efforts to build a self-driving electric car, known internally as Project Titan.

Executives informed teams that hundreds of employees who worked on the idea will be moved to divisions focusing on AI. Layoffs are expected, too.

The cancellation, first reported by Bloomberg, comes as Apple struggled with self-driving technology amid a slowing EV market. The iPhone maker’s move was welcomed by Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Approximately 2,000 employees were estimated to have worked on the decade-long car endeavor, which cost the tech giant billions.
