The government aims to establish around 500,000 charging stations nationwide

Ohio inaugurated the country’s maiden electric vehicle (EV) charging station funded by the $7.5 billion initiative from the Biden administration.

With federal funding of $140 million, Ohio plans to construct over 25 similar sites shortly.

The funding stems from the $1 trillion 2021 infrastructure bill, which aims to establish a robust network of approximately 500,000 charging stations nationwide. These stations will strategically place high-speed chargers every 50 miles on major highways.

Similar to Ohio, 26 states have made an effort to spend their share of the money to deploy fast chargers near federal highways, says the new Joint Office of Energy and Transportation.

There are currently 158,000 public chargers, including 37,000 fast chargers, across 60,000 locations in the US.
