Tesla is recalling nearly all the vehicles it sold in the US, over 2 million, to fix a defective system and update software in its Autopilot feature.

EVs released between 2012 and 2023, including the Model S, X, 3, and Model Y, will be affected.

Why?
The massive recall follows a two-year investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) into fatal Tesla crashes. Around 1,000 crashes where autopilot was allegedly used were reviewed.

The investigation revealed instances where drivers failed to maintain control or recognize when automatic steering disengaged, which heightened crash risks.

New updates to the Tesla Autopilot will include increased warnings and alerts to drivers and limitations to the areas where basic versions of Autopilot can operate.

In February, Tesla recalled around 360,000 vehicles due to software risks.
