A London-bound Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner operated by Air India crashed into an Indian medical college in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on Thursday, killing 241 people on board. One passenger survived and is hospitalized.
The plane hit the building and exploded in flames seconds after takeoff. Boeing shares dropped 5% following the tragedy.
The deceased include 169 Indians, 53 British nationals, seven Portuguese and one Canadian. Around 50 people were also injured, according to the Associated Press. While the cause remains unclear, aviation experts say the tragic incident could affect global demand for Boeing planes. The American company is already in turmoil with lower profits, layoffs, a workers’ strike, and production delays.
