Aircraft giant Boeing is facing nearly $5 billion in late-delivery penalties for pushing its 777X aircraft production to 2027.

The delay stems from regulatory challenges, even as global demand for long-haul travel surges.

The 777X—intended as the successor to Boeing’s 747 and 777 models—has now accumulated nearly $15 billion in total delay-related costs.

CEO Kelly Ortberg expressed disappointment over the delay but said flight testing has gone well.

Boeing reported it delivered 55 planes in September, which is a jump from 2024, when labor strikes cost the company billions. Its Q3 revenue rose 30% year-over-year to $23.27 billion.
