The Justice Department has reached a deal with Boeing, allowing the airplane-maker to avoid a trial over two fatal crashes of its 737 Max six years ago that killed 346 people.

The deal also means that the company, a major military contractor, won’t be labeled a felon.

The agreement comes a month before Boeing’s criminal fraud trial was set to begin that victims’ family members have asked for several years.

The agreement “guarantees further accountability and substantial benefits from Boeing immediately, while avoiding the uncertainty and litigation risk presented by proceeding to trial,” the DOJ said.
