The Body Shop, a UK-based cosmetics company, has ceased operations in the US and plans to close multiple Canadian stores as it undergoes bankruptcy proceedings.

A recent announcement revealed the closure of its US subsidiary, effective March 1, with 33 out of 105 Canadian stores beginning liquidation sales. Online sales in Canada will also halt.

The company, founded in 1976 by Anita Roddick, was renowned for its natural, sustainable and cruelty-free products.

Despite expanding globally to over 2,500 locations in 80 countries, financial challenges have persisted for the skin care retailer. Ownership changes, declining sales and pandemic impacts also contributed to its struggles.
