Industry experts say prices for holiday decorations could be 15–20% higher this year

Holiday cheer may take a hit this year as Christmas tree and decor sellers face heavy tariffs. Importers of artificial trees, lights, and ornaments warn of rising prices and fewer choices. Some even expect shortages.

Why?
Businesses are struggling under steep tariffs—once 145%, now 30%—on goods imported from China.

To stay afloat, companies have laid off workers, canceled shipments, reduced orders, and raised prices. Some are even considering personal loans to cover tariff costs.

Many factories in China report canceled orders or clients going out of business.

What does it mean for you?
Industry experts, including the American Christmas Tree Association, say prices for holiday decorations could be 15–20% higher this year. Certain items—especially artificial trees—may be in short supply.

Entire tree categories could disappear from store shelves. While large retailers may avoid raising prices, they are passing the pressure onto smaller suppliers.

The silver lining
Many households reuse decorations from past years. Stores will still offer plenty of gift options to keep the holiday spirit alive despite the challenges.
