Ice storms affecting areas of Southern Plains and Tennessee Valley may prolong till Wednesday as temperatures are expected to drop 10 to 30 degrees below average, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned.

Around 1,1000 flights, mostly Southwest Airlines—to Texas, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Oklahoma—were canceled on Monday, citing the weather.

NWS suspects the increasingly strong winter storms would lead to power outages, tree damage and hazardous travel conditions.

The Arctic winds responsible for the snow storms will move towards North Dakota and the Upper Midwest by Thursday.
