Nearly a million households and businesses in the Northern states, especially Michigan and Illinois, were left without power yesterday evening as the ongoing winter storm damaged utility lines and trees.

Michigan is the worst affected as more than 100,000 customers face outages, per PowerOutage.us.

The storm even claimed the life of a firefighter on Thursday when he was trying to put out flames caused by live wire in broken tree branches.

Southern California mountains received rare blizzard warnings, marking the first such warning issued by the National Weather Service’s LA office since 1989.

Another rare occurrence
Washington DC recorded 81-degree temps yesterday.
