President Joe Biden signed a Republican-authored bill Monday ending the national emergency related to the COVID-19 pandemic more than three years after it went into effect during the Trump administration.

A separate public health emergency tied to COVID-19 will remain until May 11.

The new law immediately ends the national emergency declarations and Title 42. The said Title is the pandemic-era rule that blocked undocumented immigrants from crossing the southern border, citing public health reasons.

Other affected programs involve mortgage forbearance at the Department of Housing and Urban Development and relaxed Veteran Affairs Department requirements.
