China opens borders but surge in cases reported

China let go of its zero COVID policy and lifted mandatory quarantines for all international arrivals yesterday. It also opened its border with Hong Kong.

To enter, travelers will need to show a negative PCR test taken within the last 48 hours. However, the country is battling an unprecedented surge in cases. According to senior officials, almost 90% of Henan—China’s third most populous province—are infected with the virus, per the AFP.
