During the final White House briefing in his five-decade-long career, US Chief Medical Advisor Dr Anthony Fauci urged the public to get their booster shots.

He added that the vaccinations provide “enough community protection that we’re not going to see a repeat of what we saw last year at this time.”

The US saw an unprecedented rise in COVID-19 infections due to the Omicron variant last winter, as the government struggled to curb the alarming rate. Some health officials warn this winter could see a surge in respiratory infections.
