The US sent a fighter jet to shoot down an unidentified object on Friday flying at about 40,000 feet off the coast of Alaska just a few days after the military downed a suspected Chinese spy balloon.

“We don't know who owns this object,” said White House spokesperson John Kirby.

According to officials, the object was smaller, about the size of a car and posed a risk to civilian air traffic.
