The Pentagon is reportedly planning to deploy between ​3,000 and 4,000 soldiers of the US Army’s elite 82nd Airborne Division to the Middle East.
The move comes amid conflicting signals from the White House. President Donald Trump recently hinted at “productive” negotiations with Iran, even postponing threatened strikes on the country’s power plants.
According to Reuters, 50,000 US troops are currently present in the region.
Since the joint US and Israeli operations on February 28, America has struck approximately 9,000 targets inside Iran.
