Ukrainian defense officials have accused SpaceX of imposing speed limits on Starlink terminals and disrupting critical military missions against Russia.
SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said StarShield is operated directly by the US government and that SpaceX cannot independently place restrictions on users.
According to Ukrainian presidential adviser Serhiy Beskrestnov, the restrictions cut internet connectivity when vehicles or military assets exceed 100 mph. The disruption could affect interceptor drones that rely on satellite communications to target and shoot down Russian threats.
The communication setback coincides with heavy Russian strikes, where Moscow launched 39 missiles alongside 128 drones overnight, killing at least 10 people. Strikes on energy infrastructure in Kyiv and Kharkiv also left more than 600,000 people without electricity.
The assault undermines the “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine, which President Donald Trump claimed when announcing plans to import Russian fuel.
