A surge in pizza deliveries around the Pentagon called the “Pentagon Pizza Report,” is drawing attention as trackers believe it to be an unexpected indicator of significant geopolitical developments and military operations.
The namesake X social media account tracking pizza orders saw a surge in orders at four joints near the Pentagon on June 12, just hours before Israel launched a major strike on Iran.
It has made a name tracking such trends, noting surges in local pizza deliveries as potential signs of unfolding global events.
However, the concept isn’t new. During the Cold War, Soviet spies reportedly monitored pizza orders in DC under the codename “Pizzint” (short for pizza intelligence). On August 1, 1990, the CIA ordered 21 pizzas in one night—hours before Iraq invaded Kuwait.
Even CNN’s Wolf Blitzer once advised, “Bottom line for journalists: Always monitor the pizzas.”
The Pentagon dismissed and disputed the theory, stating they have pizza even inside the building.
