Two fighter jets were scrambled to intercept a Cessna aircraft that was not responsive and had crossed into restricted airspace

The sonic boom that shook houses stretching from Northern Virginia to Annapolis, Maryland, yesterday afternoon was from two F-16 fighter jets scrambled to intercept a Cessna aircraft that was not responsive.

The private plane had crossed into restricted airspace.

The plane later crashed in Virginia’s National Forest, with no survivors onboard. It was reportedly carrying four people.

FlightAware tracking data indicates that the private aircraft flew over Washington DC at 34,000 feet violating airspace regulations.
