The Defense Department announced it accepted the luxury Boeing 747 jet as a gift—which raised ethics and security concerns from Republicans and Democrats—from Qatar for President Donald Trump to use as Air Force One.

The DoD will retrofit the $400 million plane to meet presidential security and mission standards. But several congressmen argue it violates the Constitution’s ban on foreign gifts.

Democratic Sen. Tammy Duckworth says it will cost “over $1 billion in taxpayer dollars to overhaul this particular aircraft.”

Meanwhile, President Trump defended accepting the jet, calling it a taxpayer-saving move. The plane is expected to be donated to his presidential library once he leaves office.
