President Donald Trump said on Sunday that the US will supply Patriot air-defense systems to Ukraine, citing Russian President Vladimir Putin talks nicely but “bombs everybody in the evening.”

The decision marks a sharp turnaround in Trump’s ongoing ceasefire efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war. While he did not specify the number of Patriot missiles to be delivered, he stated that the European Union (EU) would cover the cost.

The announcement comes as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky continues to urge global allies for more defensive support amid escalating Russian missile and drone attacks.

Kyiv already operates several Patriot systems provided by the US and allied nations. The advanced system can detect, track, and intercept incoming missiles and is equipped with radar and command-control capabilities.

President Trump is scheduled to meet with NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the White House today. Last week, he hinted at making a “major announcement” concerning Russia this week.
