Police in Washington, DC, New York, and Los Angeles stepped up patrols at transit stations, diplomatic sites, religious centers, and community spaces

US counterterrorism agencies are on high alert after American and Israeli strikes killed Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and other top officials.

The FBI and Homeland Security say they have shifted to a wartime footing, warning of possible retaliation on US soil.

FBI Director Kash Patel said more than 200 Joint Terrorism Task Forces are working around the clock to detect and stop threats.

The alert follows reports that a gunman in a mass shooting under investigation in Austin, Texas, wore a shirt featuring an Iranian flag design. However, officials have not confirmed any direct link.

The shooting left three dead and 14 injured.

Security has tightened nationwide. Camp Lejeune in North Carolina has increased checks at entry gates under orders from Northern Command.

Police in Washington, DC, New York, and Los Angeles stepped up patrols at transit stations, diplomatic sites, religious centers, and community spaces.

NYPD and LAPD said they are acting out of caution and will remain vigilant.
