Diesel prices have stayed above $5 since mid-July
US diesel prices reached an all-time high as global fuel supplies tighten and disruptions hit major exporters.
The national average climbed to $5.820 per gallon on Thursday, slightly surpassing the previous record set in 2022 after Russia invaded Ukraine. Diesel prices have stayed above $5 since mid-July.
The pressure comes as seasonal demand is expected to rise. Farmers also typically use more diesel in the fall, while demand for heating oil increases ahead of winter.
Because trucks, farms, and trains rely heavily on the fuel, higher diesel costs can raise shipping expenses and ultimately push up prices for groceries, packages, and other goods.
Meanwhile, the average gas price stood at $4.15 a gallon yesterday.
