Over the next decade, Disney plans to spend $60 billion on its iconic theme parks, resorts, cruise lines and hotels in the U.S. and abroad, according to its securities filing on Tuesday.
The investment is nearly double the amount it spent on the Parks, Experiences and Products division over the last 10 years.
The move comes as losses from the Disney+ streaming service continue to mount and its TV networks, including ESPN, ABC and FX, bring in less profits. Meanwhile, the Mickey Mouse creator’s theme parks division the world over has witnessed a rebound after the pandemic lockdowns faded, bringing in profits.
The division is expected to generate $10 billion this year alone.
Some plans of the Burbank, California-based company are
- Opening Frozen-themed parks at its Hong Kong, Paris and Tokyo properties and a Zootopia-themed land in Shanghai.
- A new Pirates of the Caribbean-themed lounge in Magic Kingdom.
- Wakanda from the Black Panther franchise at the Disneyland Resort.
- Cruises and a new home port in Singapore.
