Lady Gaga thrilled 2.5 million fans in Brazil—setting the record for the largest concert audience ever for a female artist, surpassing Madonna’s milestone, which she set last year with 1.6 million attendees.
At her free live concert at Copacabana Beach in Rio De Janeiro, the star opened with “Bloody Mary” and performed hits like “Poker Face” and “Alejandro” and debuted songs from her new album Mayhem.
After sold-out shows in Mexico City and Coachella, Gaga heads next to Singapore.
Though the show was free for attendees, Gaga was Paid by the city. Officials hope the event will inject around $100 million into Rio De Janeiro’s economy.
Meanwhile, Brazilian police foiled a planned bomb attack targeting her free concert. Two suspects, including a group leader and a teenager, were arrested.
The group allegedly aimed to harm children, teens and LGBTQIA+ attendees using explosives.
Police say it was framed as a “social media challenge,” and 15 search warrants were executed across cities.
