Met Gala 2026 saw angrier-than-usual protestors

Stars lit up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City yesterday, their theatrical attire offering ample fodder. But that was not the only thing that caught everyone’s attention.

The fact that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and his wife, Lauren Sanchez Bezos, took on roles as lead sponsors and honorary chairs generated greater-than-usual criticism.

Critics questioned Anna Wintour, the organizer, over the decision.

Before the “Fashion is Art” themed event, Jeff Bezos’s fancy Madison Square Park home was lit up with messages criticizing the billionaire and Amazon.

On Friday, hundreds of fake pee bottles (300 to be exact) were placed inside the venue by Everyone Hates Elon, a British political activist group, to call for a boycott.

The group wanted to draw attention to Bezos’s treatment of Amazon’s workers.

Despite the criticism, fashion’s biggest night out was a success. Celebrities from Rihanna to Juliane Moore were in attendance.

However, some faces were missing. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdan decided to stay back and enjoy his evening rather than attend the celeb-filled gala. Zendaya and Bella Hadid also skipped the show.
