Severe weather warnings have put more than 30 million people on high alert. 

The town of Perryton in the Texas Panhandle was struck by devastating tornadoes on Thursday, resulting in fatalities and destruction. As emergency crews searched for survivors, images from the scene showed homes reduced to rubble.

The three-day Juneteenth weekend will witness an oppressive heat wave gripping a wide area of South Texas, with record-breaking temperatures exceeding 115 degrees Fahrenheit.

Several areas including Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and parts of Louisiana are under heat advisories. The National Weather Service advises caution as the authorities have established cooling centers in libraries and parks.
