An Illinois judge ruled on Tuesday that Buffalo Wild Wings can continue calling their popular “boneless wings” dish by the same name, even if it doesn’t contain the same part of the chicken.
The ruling stems from a 2023 lawsuit, when plaintiff Aimen Halim alleged consumer fraud, arguing that the restaurant’s product should be labeled as “chicken nuggets” or “poppers” because they are not deboned wing meat.
However, Judge John Tharp noted that the term boneless chicken wings does not fool consumers. He compared it to “chicken fingers,” saying people ordering it know they are not being served poultry feet.
