GTA VI is set to come out in Many 2026|@RocketStarGames|X

Rockstar Games has officially delayed the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 2026, shattering hopes for a 2025 release.

In a short website post, Rockstar apologized and thanked fans for their patience, saying it needs more time to meet expectations.

The hype is massive—for good reason. It’s been over a decade since GTA V dropped in 2013. That title sold over 210 million copies and generated over $8 billion in revenue, ranking it among gaming royalty alongside Minecraft and Tetris.

The upcoming game will take players back to Vice City—GTA’s version of Miami. It will follow Lucia, a veteran criminal, and her male partner as they carry out a major heist.

Since Rockstar’s teaser trailer in December 2023, few details have emerged. More updates may follow when parent company Take-Two Interactive reports earnings on May 15.

Meanwhile, Borderlands 4, Take-Two’s next big release, will arrive on September 12, 2025.

Gamers and console manufacturers alike were looking forward to the release of GTA VI, which, when combined with the release of Nintendo Switch 2, was expected to boost console sales.
